Most of the stress of planning Las Vegas Weddings can be alleviated with the help of some very important tools. We know that first hand now as my daughter's wedding was on April 23rd in our backyard. Every vendor who helped to complete this awesome day we found either through our very own bridal show, The Bridal Spectacular, our publication, Spectacular Bride or on our website.

We can't wait to share the details of this Asian themed wedding in the next issue of Spectacular Bride. You will even be treated to a feature spread where you get to see the bride photographed by 10 of Las Vegas' finest wedding photographers. Same bride, but how different she can look through the unique styling of 10 photographers. You will have the opportunity to compare the approach of each photographer and choose the one that best suits your personality.

You can meet all the professionals who participated in our wedding at the August 19 & 20 Bridal Spectacular. You will also be able to see a display of the asian themed decor we used at the show as well as other inspirational decor ideas in Inspiration Avenue. We have shared a few photos in this blog to give you just a hint of what it was like.

How Hard Can It Be to Plan A Wedding?

As a Las Vegas wedding professional who produces the largest bridal show in Nevada, I thought I was certainly prepared to plan a wedding when my daughter announced she was engaged. If you are in the midst of planning your wedding now, I'm sure you will agree that its a lot harder than it looks.

The best thing we did to get started was to attend a friends bridal show in another state. Even though I'm at my own bridal show twice a year, my daughter and I are too busy working to work on wedding plans. Walking through a bridal show puts you in front of every possible wedding vendor you could ever need. Face to face contact with your vendors is so important, picking someone off of the internet will not give you the personal touch you deserve and need.

Our next step was to read the wedding planner we publish, "Spectacular Bride" cover to cover. There was so much to learn to prepare us for what was ahead.

Then we did something I think every bride should do, we also hired a wedding coordinator to guide us through the steps and to be there on the wedding day to make sure things went smoothly. It is now only 48 days until the wedding and we are getting so excited. There are many more details we will share about what we have learned along the way. Stay tuned for my next post! Give.gown will be at The Bridal Spectacular August 21 & 22 accepting your donations of gently used or new wedding gowns, bridesmaid dresses, prom dresses, mother of the bride and flower girl dresses. This organization sponsors a yearly fundraiser which auctions off gowns and uses the funds to donate to various cancer foundations. All contributors receive a receipt for tax purposes if desired. Every bride who brings in a gown to donate will automatically receive a door prize!
Christie McCoy-Hjelm is the coordinator for this worthy organization. Christie is the lead coordinator and owner of CLM Weddings & Events LLC.
You can meet Christie at The Bridal Spectacular in booth # 712 as well as see her handiwork at the grand entrance of the show!

I've been attending the Bridal Show Producers Conference in Minneapolis for the last several days and the information to increase the value of my bridal shows for the brides and grooms- to-be has been invaluable! I look forward to sharing more of these concepts over the next couple of weeks.

We just finished a great presentation by representatives of The Knot. They presented a survey of what brides were thinking and planning regarding their wedding in 2008. After the presentation, discussions regarding planning weddings in today's economy followed.

One of the statements heard during the Knot presentation hit me......we have often heard it takes a village to raise a child, but this was changed to it takes a village to help plan the wedding. I'm thinking, how about it takes a village to help pay for the wedding? Why not ask relatives beyond your parents to help pay for various items in the wedding. It could be handled like a registry. Not that I'm suggesting putting this in your invitation, but you could put it through the family network that instead of gifts you could use donations for the wedding.

Just a thought!

More ways to have the wedding of your dreams will be forthcoming. But first and foremost plan to attend a bridal show so you can meet your potential vendors face to face. Saving Money on Music at Your Wedding

There are many articles out now on how to save money at your wedding. But brides beware, some of the advice being given is just plain BAD!

We are in the position to talk to many wedding professionals who are the ones who will be working hard to make your wedding a success. Today we spoke to Knight Sounds Entertainment. They were happy to pass on some practical advice to you!

You can still have the wedding you want, but the first thing to consider is to put the date off a little longer than you would like and save for it! Don't go into debt just to have it right away and then start your married life together overwhelmed financially and possibly end up divorced.

Don't just plan to use an ipod and do it yourself. That could end up destroying your happy day. Without a professional emcee there to direct events, get the party going, and make special announcements, your wedding could be over in an hour.

The best way to cut $100 off your entertainment budget might be to book your entertainment for 3 hours instead of 4. Or have your wedding on a week day instead of the weekend. That one decision alone can save you on most every service you will need.

If you simply can't wait and want to get married now, then plan a simpler chapel wedding and hold a big party a year down the road and relive your special day with everyone present!

Our featured grand prize promotion at our recent show was more fun than you can imagine....unless of course you were one of these brides!

There were five .50 karat cubic zerconias hidden in our oversized sand box and 5 lucky brides were picked each time to sift through the sand to find one of the stones. The bride who found the specially marked cz won a .50 karat diamond from Aaron Leleh Jewelers! The other 4 brides each got to keep the cz or received a $100 gift certificate good with Aaron Lelah.

Sometimes the winner found her stone rather quickly and other times it took a while, but everyone had a great time!

Michael Testagrossa created a walk down the aisle feeling in his booth that truly stood out from the norm. This photo just does not do the display justice which featured a green approach with a moss lined aisle runner and brite red candles for visual pop. The 34th Bridal Spectacular was a huge hit with the brides!

This past weekend over 1,150 brides attended our event at The Pavilions at World Market Center Las Vegas. They were so excited and having so much fun planning their wedding with over 180 of Vegas' top wedding professionals there to help. Over the next couple of weeks we will be sharing with you some of the Best of Show booths that were there as well as other "cutting edge" wedding trends that were seen at the show! Winner of the BSPI Star Award for "Top International Bridal Fashion Show" 2008!

We are so excited and honored to have won this award! We work very hard on our fashion shows, from staging to, professional choreographers and models who can dance! This award was given by Bridal Show Producers International at the Denver Conference in May. Fashion show videos were sent in by BSPI show producer members from all over the US, Canada and Europe. The nominees were judged by independent judges and the scores were tallied by an accounting firm.

Debra Hansen, producer was also honored with a "Spirit of BSPI" award for her dedication and selfless contributions to the organization.

Are all bridal shows the same? Which ones should you attend?

Bridal Shows are an excellent source of information to help you plan your wedding. They will save you time and money as you go through the process of choosing photographers, disc jockies, flowers, dresses, tuxedos, wedding cake, caterers, reception locations and so much more.

Since 1991 The Bridal Spectacular has been the bridal show you can trust to provide you with the most options, the largest number of wedding professionals, a professional fashion show and wonderful prizes. When you come to our event you know you will meet a large group in any category you are seeking so that you can make the decision that reflects your individual style and budget, whether it be about photography or flowers or any thing else! Our typical number of vendors is between 180 and 200! Our fashion shows represent fashions from multiple fashion presenters showing a large variety of fashions. Our shows have always been held at Cashman Center which is conveniently located from any where in Las Vegas, Green Valley, or Henderson.

Our January event will be held Jan 9 & 10 of 2009, we will be having a temporary move to World Market Pavillions as Cashman is holding a 9 month bowling tournament. We will return to Cashman for our summer event which will be held August 21 & 22, 2009. Meanwhile, this summer's event will be the largest ever and it will be July 18 & 19, 2008!

This year there have been other options in bridal shows to attend. These have been hotel, boutique style bridal shows. Certainly still worth attending, just know that they are smaller and have less vendors so you will still want to come to the ultimate in Las Vegas bridal shows, The Bridal Spectacular July 18 & 19, tickets available in late May.

The January 25 & 26 Bridal Spectacular is almost here. ARE THE RUMORS TRUE? Sorry folks Ty Hansen and Lyndsay Johnson from
Fox5 did not get married. A lot of fun antics happened at our recent July show including a mock wedding with reporter Lindsay Johnson and my son Ty. Lyndsay did a fantastic job of reporting on all the wonderful events that would take place at the show and Ty did a wonderful job as standing in as a potential groom. He doesn't exactly look miserable does he?

It's almost bridal show time and things do get crazy here in the office the last couple of weeks. WE just sent the New Spectacular Wedding Planner to print and we can't wait to see it. It is such a nice planner for the bride and groom, that will find it full of helpful ideas to plan their wedding. Did you know, they get one free when they attend the show?

Just back from Montreal and Jamaica. First to attend the Bridal Show Producer's International convention in Montreal and then for some R & R in Jamaica.

It was very exciting to hear about all the latest tips and trends for bridal shows. You definitely have to attend these events because they are all about the bride. One stop shopping where she can find everything she needs for a perfect day.

While laying on the beach in Jamaica I must have seen 10 weddings a day. What an exciting time for you as a couple. Is a destination wedding for you? If you want something intimate for just a few guests or family members, why not. But if you have always dreamed of the big day, in a church, walking down the aisle with a big party afterwards, then stay with the traditional wedding and go to Jamaica after for the honeymoon! Now that "takes the cake". At the January Bridal Spectacular Harrahs Entertainment had a cake you could not miss in their booth! It was at least 3 feet tall and featured all of their properties. Other incredible cakes were shown by Creations Bakery, Simple Elegance, and Albertson's. There were even wedding cupcakes on display. Today's bride has many options to choose from.

After attending a few weddings myself recently, I wondered if the trend is going toward smaller cakes on display and then having sheet cakes to make sure you have enough for all your guests. While this might be an option that is better on your budget, these smaller cakes don't make as dramatic a presentation for photos ....especially during the cake cutting ceremony. There are other ways to make your cake look larger than it really is too, ask your baker if they can make a dummy layer for effect and to make the cake taller. Please do consider how the cake will look on the cake table and size does count in the over all scheme of things.

Remember the best way to pick a cake is to be able to taste it! When you attend The Bridal Spectacular July 20 & 21 there will be lots of cake to sample and savor.

OK, I've been a little busy lately and have not kept up with my blogs. However, I have a very good excuse.

I'm such a proud mom right now and getting ready to see both my kids graduate! First my talented, son Ty Hansen is graduating from UAT in Tempe, Arizona with a Bachelor in Science Degree with an emphasis in Web Development. Ty is the creator and webmaster of our website and has programmed such innovations as our virtual floor plan and our barcoded on line ticketing system. Ty also runs the ticketing department at the show and has worked there since he was 5!

Next comes my lovely Laura, who has also been working at the show since she was 3; first modeling as a flower girl and now one of the beautiful bridal gown models in the show! She is graduating from CCSN with her Associate of Arts Degree on May 14th and from high school on June 12. What a determined young lady to do both by the age of 18. She is a truly talented artist and recently created our new logo! Laura will be attending NAU in the fall pursuing a degree in Art Education.

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to brag a little about my two fabulous children, now young adults, making their parents so proud!

How you seat your guests at your wedding reception can make or break the evening. If at all possible, you want to choose a room that allows all the guests to see the head table and dance floor. Some facilities are split into two rooms or an L-shape which will split up your guests and make it hard for them to be part of the party.. Here are some other considerations:

Bars: Consider having more than one so your guests don't have to push their way through tables to get to them.
Have a table for singles: Consider putting all your single guests together at one table, they will have much more fun than sitting with families or married couples.
DJ or Band: Needs to be placed where they can see the dance floor and the head table, and cake table since they will be directing many of festivities.
Headtable: This can be either a one sided banquet table large enough to seat the whole wedding party or a double sided banquet so their immediate families or mates can sit with them. You can sit up to 24 people at a head table, the more the merrier. The sweetheart table for the bride and groom only will leave you filling isolated from your own party.
Cake Table: This will be the focal spot for one of your very special events, make sure it stands out and is located in a good spot for photos with a good well lit background.
Party People: These people will be the ones having the best time and will be happiest near the bar and the dj or entertainment. They don't have to be near you!

Planning a Destination Wedding? Las Vegas is the place, we have an abundance of chapels, reception locations and all kinds of unique theme options for your wedding. There are a few basics to keep in mind when planning a destination wedding.

Consider hiring a consultant, this can save you lots of time and prevent mistakes when hiring out of "your" state vendors.

I just had a wonderful phone call the other day from Ellen Lafair, promotional director of the new Fox 5 television series The Wedding Bells premiering tonight. Ellen had several beautiful brides handing out mints at our recent bridal show, The Bridal Spectacular, promoting this new wedding sit com. Before and after our show they were on tour at many other bridal shows across the country. She called to tell me that our show was by far the most professional and best attended bridal show that they participated in. We work very hard to put on a great bridal show, but its nice to hear from someone who knows how we compare to other bridal events.

What a great turn out for the bridal show last weekend! 1300 brides wandered through the halls and found everything they needed for their wedding. Our grand prize winner of the Fiji Trip provided by Journey Pacific and wedding package was Jennifer Teer getting married in May of 07. Jennifer and her fiance also won a set of wedding bands courtesy of Aaron Lelah Jewelers, a Wedding Ceremony package courtesy of Emerald at Queensridge, a wedding gown certificate from Tres Jolie Bridal, a $1,000 floral package from Floral Art Florist and a $1,000 Travel allowance from The Spectacular Wedding Planner. The lucky bride and groom will be staying at the Castaway Island Resort and the Outrigger on the Lagoon in Fiji.

On Friday night we gave away a complete living room set to Bynne Larson courtesy of RC Willey.

Table Scapes....Let the season inspire your wedding reception decor. Whether it's fall, winter, spring or summer, the colors that those seasons inspire can also create a spectacular table display. Of course, the colors you choose should also complement the apparel worn in the wedding. The operative word being complement! Here are a few tips to keep in mind when attending a bridal show.

Make sure you register either on line or at the door. On line will save you time at the door! Registering makes it possible to win prizes and allows you to receive special offers and discounts from participating exhibitors. If you are concerned about giving out your e-mail address, create a new one for during your wedding planning stages that you can eliminate later when the wedding is over.
Bring pre-addressed labels to enter contests at various booths. If you don't have any, make your own on the computer, just make sure you include your wedding date.
Bring your check book or credit card to take advantage of special "show only" offers.
Plan on spending at least 4 to 5 hours to see everything including the fashion show.
Bring your fiance for at least one trip, then come back and shop alone or with your mother or helpful friend. Attending twice helps you really take in all the information you will need to make wise decisions!
Wear comfortable shoes, you'll be doing lots of walking. But think of all the time you will save in the long run if you had to run all over town to meet 180 wedding professionals.

One of the best reasons for attending a bridal show is to taste the wedding cakes. How else will you make an informed decision? Not only is it important what it looks like, but you certainly want it to taste great!
